If you did a very minimal installation is very probably that some
parts/features didn't works because of something missed.
If is not a problem for you try to install cinnamon-desktop-environment
(metapackage) including recommends, if important issue with features are
still present you need at least cinnamon 3.4, it is very good and with
all things needed by major of users (the significant only issue I had
with it was with some network configurations solved with cinnamon 3.6,
not uploaded in debian repository but ready in debian gits)

If you want a solid rock like debian with cinnamon full features for
"beginners" users there isn't for now FWIK, something near to it is
probably LMDE2 (I not tried it but I suppose should be more solid of
past version rolling), but is based on older debian, LMDE3 will be based
on debian 9 and with cinnamon 3.8.
I'm also searching a good solution near solid with cinnamon full
features for "beginners" but I'll use next ubuntu LTS for the ppa, and I
probably do in a ppa cinnamon 3.6 or higher from debian packages like
what I did some years ago with Trusty.
I hope in a better future and I'll keep working in future versions of
debian packages if possible but my I do not have good knowledge and
enough time to achieve excellent results available "out of the box", I
hope someone expert like Maxy can help to reach approach the goal with
more upload and backports and somebody else help with more testing.
Also a system like launchpad for debian it would be very useful and it
would save me a lot of time and do more.
