Since postfix runs chrooted the lmtp socket (default /var/run/cyrus/socket/lmtp) cant be accessed with the described setup. this results in a "No such file or directory" error im the log files - and deferred messages.

Solution:
* Change postfix Setup (master.cf) - change the smtp and the lmtp chroot
flag from '-' to 'n'

* Alternative (untested): 
change the socket in imapd.conf and cyrus.conf to something like '/var/lib/postfix/cyrus/socket/lmtp' (dont forget to change main.cf)

Second thing:
Not only /var/run/cyrus/socket - also /var/run/cyrus must be chowned
$> dpkg-statoverride --force --update --add cyrus lmtp 750 /var/run/cyrus
