[Pkg-dspam-misc] retiring from the pkg-dspam project

hey folks--
I've been inactive on the debian packaging for dspam recently, and i
apologize for that. I'm afraid i need to step down from the pkg-dspam
team, because i'm trying to be honest with myself about the number of
projects i take on. So: as of now, i'm retiring from the pkg-dspam
project. As soon as i can figure out how to de-link myself from the
alioth group, i'll do so (hints are welcome), so that i'm not giving any
false impressions about my ability to spend much time on this particular
project.
That said, this is an exciting time for dspam. jonz sold the upstream
source to a company, but the company appears to have let the tool
stagnate. Enough frustration has built up within the community that
there is now a fork. dspam-community was created in the last month:
http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/dspam-community/index.php?title=Main_Page
I hope that folks remaining on pkg-dspam will take advantage of the
current excitement to contribute to the community version. jonz
wouldn't accept GPL'ed patches without full copyright assignment, but it
seems unlikely that the dspam-community folks would have that same
restriction, since they don't hold copyright on the source in the first
place. This is an opportunity to push the debian changes upstream,
which could both help the broader dspam community and minimize the
maintenance work for pkg-dspam in the future.
Regards,
