I'll prefer to do more testing on that front and also talk with Eucalyptus
to have the needed UI changes in place.

This sounds nice :)

I believe first they need to have their release cycle and branch management
in place[1]. Graziano is the best manager here.

Yes, I'm OK on this.

We can setup a TODO / roadmap list on the wiki. 2.x should, ideally, be
released next time with the new packaging format et al.
>From what I've seen:

a) Stub generation: Fix the AXIS2 jar and environment variable for stubs
generation ( gatherlog/Makefile ). Ubuntu packaging have pre-generated them
and added as a patch to the packaging but this patch itself is ~14MB[2].
b) Patch management for packaging to use quilt
c) Packaging format to DEBSrc 3.0 [3]
d) Java libs dependency handling (use upstream's jars or system-wide)
e) Smooth upgrade from 1.6 to 2.x

2- https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eucalyptus/2.0.1+bzr1256-0ubuntu6
3- http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0

For c) it is just Graziano, I presume.

Indeed.
