You probably checked it out with the svn:// URL instead of the authentified
svn+ssh:// URL.  The « debcheckout » tool from the devscripts package provides
you a conveniently unified view on this.

$ debcheckout --details mule
type	svn
url	svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-eucalyptus/mule/trunk

$ debcheckout --auth --details mule
type	svn
url	svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-eucalyptus/mule/trunk

$ debcheckout --user=iamfuzz-guest --details mule
type	svn
url	svn+ssh://iamfuzz-guest@svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-eucalyptus/mule/trunk

So if you check the repository again with « debcheckout --user=iamfuzz-guest mule »,
you should be able to commit.

I could not undestand the build error, which puzzled me as well.  I may be
difficult to reach in the next days, so... Good luck !
