There's nothing I can see indicating any breakage.  This has been going 
on for a month or so.  I finally got tired of trying to deal with Kmail 
and Balsa, so filed the report.  Sorry it's been like this for a while.

I don't get that. Here's my apt preferences file:

 Pin: release a=unstable
 Pin-Priority: 800

Package: *
 Pin: release a=stable
 Pin-Priority: 600

Package: *
 Pin: release a=experimental
 Pin-Priority: 500
-----------------

Should I junk this file?

I can trash my own config if I learned how to...

What would I back up?

If I tried to completely purge it leading to a reinstall, what packages 
would I trash?

I tried that immediately after sending in the report.  Nothing gets 
recorded as far as I can tell.  For me the editor freezes on new 
messages as well.  :(  (again)
