I wonder if you have nifti_tools handy?

or any other tool to dump the header of original/result nii.gz files?

if you have nifti_tool, you could simply inspect

nifti_tool -infiles bold.nii.gz tmp.nii.gz -diff_hdr

to see what header information got different for some reason?

also, may be I missed, what tool was used to render the image after all?
how does rendering of original bold.nii.gz look like?
