I have only one Python installed (Python(x,y) plus some additional
plug-ins).

Not sure what is happening here. Could you please post a 'dir' of the
directory 'C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\nifti' that should provide some
hints.

BTW: You have exactly *one* Python 2.6 installed on your machine, I
guess?
