Do you want to become a debian developer? You could also co-maintain without
being a DD by means of sponsoring. Being a Co-maintainer means you would share
the responsibility of this package. That means you should know/do the same things
as a DD. Doing a NMU just means you want to do some work one time.
I don't know your skills, but I think more people on the team wouldn't hurt since
Daniel and I are quite busy. What do you think Daniel?

What is your question exactly? This is a lintian warning? I have no experience
with porting, but the autobuilders should try to build it when it gets uploaded.
We have the responsebility to get it ported to all arches before new versions can
transition to testing.

I am not implying anything about your skill, but it is a good place to upload
packages to if you don't have your own hosting and want them tested.
I used version names like 1.5.2-0mentors1 to ensure people upgrade to the real
version when it gets uploaded to the main archive.
