nice to hear that you want get more involved!

For setting up a git repository on our alioth project, I always consult
my own bash history:

 1569  mkdir fso-gpsd.git
 1570  cd fso-gpsd.git/
 1571  git --bare init --shared
 1572  chmod a+x hooks/post-update
 1573  ln -sf /usr/local/bin/git-commit-notice hooks/post-receive 
 1574  vim description 
 1575  cp ../zhone.git/config .

The git structure itself should be git-buildpackage compatible (as
your’s probably is). In the cases where we track upstream’s VCS as well
(besides the released tarballs on which the Debian branch is based) I’m
experimenting a bit (as can be seen in the pkg-fso repository), but this
does not seem to apply here.

And in anycase we are a young team, so all rules are just guidelines and
exposed to evolution :-)
