I thought I wrote a comment last week about this, but I must have
forgotten to hit the post button or something...
Anyway, one can get around the "no sound card" error by reverting the
40_nonlinux.diff patch and using padsp. However, that only produce a
different error (buffer overflow) and no sound, so I'm not sure if
that's "progress" or not.

Error message:
KXL error message
could not open sound card (No such file or directory)
Not a device conflict. Tried with aoss, padsp, and pasuspender. Bug
#45359 is similar.
