Do we know if libkxl is still actively maintained by the Debian Games
Team? Conversations about fixing this in Debian have been going on for
several years, and there hasn't been any forward progress made on it.
kxl hasn't been updated since late 2012, and the change from 1.1.7-14 to
1.1.7-16 only addressed an issue relating to using linux headers where
they are inappropriate.

Status in “kxl” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) x86_64
  geki3 1.0.3-7

  Error message:
  KXL error message
  could not open sound card (No such file or directory)

  Not a device conflict. Tried with aoss, padsp, and pasuspender.  Bug
  #45359 is similar.
