 I think you shouldn't have anything to do to play MP3s in Rhythmbox in
 Ubuntu dapper.  At the very least, they don't use GStreamer 0.8
 anymore, but only GStreamer 0.10, so you were not correctly informed.
 Please file a support request on their side to update your information.
