[pkg-horde] Horde3 woes.

Hello all,
I'm trying to install horde3 and eventually turba2 on my local Sid box
and connect to a remote mysql server. I'm receiving no help from the
horde support 'structure', so I'm forced to hassle you guys with this
crap.
I'm totally new to horde, and pretty new to php, fyi.
On to the questions:
1)Are there testing scripts for the various aspects of the horde3
framework that are slightly more detailed than the 'test.php' script
which appears to only return "this is supported, this is not". I'm
looking for, for example, a database test script that will return
'horde3 connected to x.x.x.x server, logged in as 'whatever' user,
verified that all databases and tables are properly configured for the
default horde3 install'. or 'Horde3_mysql_test failed to connect to
x.x.x.x mysql server' and so on.
I'm just wondering if they're out there and I'm looking in the wrong areas.
2) the 'test.php' script included with the Debian install returns
under "PHP MODULE capabilities" > MySql Support -> NO. However, I've
installed about every php module there is, thinking I may have missed
someting, including the php5-mysql modules. Any idea what I may be
missing here?
3) Should I be running the php5-mysql package or the php5-mysqli package?

Ok, I have dozens more questions, but these three are either the most
pressing or simplest to frame.
Many thanks for maintaining this package, I'm tryhing to get a small
business off of the ground and horde3 offers functionality I really
need.
Peace,
