And, anyway, I have no real intent to join the TP and work in it so,
in any case, my translations should be marked as external.

There are certainly some other translations that are maintained
"externally", particularly those we receive through Debian BTS because
of the special link between Debian and iso-codes (iso_3166 is used by
the Debian Installer and often maintained by Debian Installer translators).

I wonder whether there could be a way to "mark" PO files as "external"
in TP, for instance by using a pseudo-header in the files headers or
something similar.
