I tried the package above with gdbmrecent.sl from jedmodes.  It works
great and I hope this script will be included in jed-extra. 

A request to Paul: in the next version of gdbmrecent.sl, could you please
define RECENT_DB, MAX_CACHED_FILES, and EXCLUDE_PATTERN as
custom_variables?
