I use e.g. ffap.sl and tar.sl on a regular basis.

This is already included in the current SVN version in 50jed-extra.sl

% Experimental and exotic modes
% (uncomment to initalize, maybe better on a per user basis in ~/jed.rc)
% append_libdir($1 + "extra/", 0); % append but do not initialize
% append_libdir($1 + "extra/", 1); % append and initialize

I would not call this "contrib". All modes of jed-extra are contributions.
Maybe "experimental" would be more clear than "extra", however there are
also some pretty stable but "exotic" (i.e. seldom used) modes in "extra".

You have it as well:

   ...trunk/packages/jed-extra/debian/contents.txt

All modes with X are classed experimental.

The content of .../usr/share/jed/jed-extra/extra in
jed-extra_2.1-1_all.deb is

  /apsconf

  apsmode.sl
  autotext.sl
  bufed.sl
  bufed_srch.sl
  cdecl.sl
  ding.sl
  ffap.sl
  fileview.sl
  fileview_cmds.sl
  howto.sl
  info.sl
  info_look.sl
  infomisc.sl
  infospace.sl
  pcre.sl
  rfcview.sl
  services.sl
  slang.ssh

  subpar.sl
  tar.sl
