Agreed. This would also enable a fix of the Ubuntu bug where jed 0.99.17
is packed together with jed-extra 1.x.

Have a look at http://jedmodes.sourceforge.net/mode/?term=date
and you will see that it ranges from 2000 to 2006

Finding the licenses is a bit more tedious. You can easily list all modes
that are GPL with
http://jedmodes.sourceforge.net/search-dcdata.php?pattern=General+Public+License

But now you have to check for missing modes and what the license of them
is like (and if they are included in jed-extra).

We already have this. http://jedmodes.sourceforge.net/

If Jörgs latex modes is added (last time I tried to download from there,
it took ages), we will have to include the source URL as well.  

Maybe we could use a script to update the URLs from the rules.
