The following commit has been merged in the master branch:
commit 44608fabf2fbbfbd91ee31c3ad56969f3aee16b8
Author: Pino Toscano <pino at debian.org>
Date: Wed Dec 6 23:20:13 2017 +0100

    drop Debian-only man page (#883727)

this clearly shows why adding man pages to debian packages does not
work, if the man pages are not kept up-to-date
