OMG i found it ...

Debian-40-etch-32-LAMP:/etc# ldapsearch -x -D
"cn=manager,cn=internal,dc=contentprint,dc=com" -w credativ

was working ok so it had to be in the saslauthd.conf file
and indeed it was

ldap_bind_pw: credativ

had a trailing space on that line, remove it and testsaslauthd gave a
succes.

so its worth it to let people check for trailing spaces in the config file!
