Oerks, Ubuntu? Hm this is Debian _not_ Ubuntu.
Anyway to be a bit more productive we've a similar issue reported in
this bugreport

Sadly the reporter didn't answer any further question and it looked like
some strange problem with ntfs-3g. Anyway LyX shouldn't crash in this
case.

So first of all you should try LyX 1.5.4 with Debian/unstable (well now
that's not so easy because you're living on the other side) and if it
still happens please describe exactly what you're doing.
