madwifi-ng-source does not strictly require to install m-a. However only
using kernel-package failed for me using 'make-kpkg --added-modules
madwifi-ng modules' since make-kpkg complains it cannot find the
kdist_image target.
make-kpkg works fine if I install m-a.
Correct me if i am wrong but it seems that the kdist_image target is
provided in the rules script through the
/usr/share/modass/common-rules.make include. That implies (still correct
me if i am wrong) that m-a is necessary for modules building with
kernel-package and that alternative 2)
would have been a better answer to bug #354000.
There is maybe a work around in the make-kpkg options (I did not find in
the man page) for compiling the modules without m-a, but it becomes it
little more complicated for a standard user like myself.
