The reason why it worked with 2.6.18.dfsg.1-9 was that I didn't
rebuilt the initrd.

The problem only exists when the madwifi modules gets loaded during
initrd run, it produces this error:

Error 256 loading module "ath_rate_sample"

When I unload the madwifi modules after boot, and then again load
ath_pci, wireless works fine again, even with 2.6.18.dfsg.1-10.
