Well, until we get a hardcore kernel hacker onboard, we'd better stick
with the official kernel. That is, unless we want to provide a kernel
which can't load the wifi modules.

meanwhile, There's a bunch of tasks that need hacking:

1) merge xomap from maemos xserver[1] sources the xorg-server of debian.
according to Daniel, It should mostly be matter of copying the fb/omap
directory over and setting the makefiles.

2) providing instructions howto install a debian/armel chroot to a
n800. This will give endusers the possibility of using the official
firmare while running all their command line tools from the armel
chroot.

3) finishing and robustifying the tablet-utils[2] scriptset that makes
it possible to boot n800 to the debian partition on a SD card.

4) polish the basix UI. Surely, some people would happy with just a
terminal and connect to access points with iwconfig... So we need a nice
virtual keyboard (for N800, for N810 not necessary), make network-manager
work out of box and so-on.

5) bring in the APPLICATIONS. most interesting apps are already open
source, such as the browser, modest email, rss and pdf readers, fbreader
maemo-mapper... This is relatevely trivial work - pull the sources from
maemo repository, fix the packaging to match current Debian expectations,
document copyright and give it someone to upload. There is also some
interesting hildonized software in the ubuntu UME project, originating
from http://www.moblin.org/ .
