The patch dor the deb readoing problem is in debian/patches/pending.
The files for the missing desktop issue are in debian/desktopfiles
(and some extra lines in debian/mc.install*).

While it makes work for packagers I like to hear this anyway that mc
development is not stalled any more ...

I just uploaded to unstable the changes trying to make them as
separately as possible. If you want a bloody git beginner to submit
something to a repository chances are not bad that I might break your
merge somehow - but I can try anyway if you want me to do this.

Sure. As I said previosely this is exactly the location where I
obtained the stuf from.

I agree, but this seems to take a lot of time. I promised to some
Ubuntu using friends to fix this soonish and I'm afraid this might miss
the autumn release of Ubuntu if it will not happen now(ish). What I
uploaded now worked on the Ubuntu machine of my friend (who was super
happy to find mc now which was just not the case before when there was
no desktop file).

That's done now.

Uhmm, I was a bit to quick not reading your mail to the end before
firing up dput. I hope you don't mind. I can confirm that both changes
definitely work on several boxes (Debian and Ubuntu).

Sorry if I was to quick and good luck with further packaging of new
upstream version

      Andreas.
