It is no USB keyboard rather such an very old fashioned round PC
connectors (I saved a stack of these very robust ones from Compaq ;-))
and reconnecting does not help - as I said I even exchanged the
keyboard.

I observed a similar occurance on my Laptop last weekend and I have seen
a short Message from Xfce "verzögerte Tasten" (something like "slowed
down keys") after pressing the Shift key for a while. Sounds like the
most stupif misfeature they invented an when beeing at the Debian
Science workshop somebody else remembered vaguely such a thing under
Gnome. This might fit because when marking some text in MC you simply
press <Shift> for some time. I need to do furter investigation and how
I can get rid of this totally unwanted misfeature.
