Is an update to the debian mediawiki package forthcoming?

My users are asking for user permissions that 1.5 and up offer.

Is there to be new debian release of mediawiki and when?

If not, is it adviseable to try and upgrade 1.4.14-1ubuntu1 (dapper) to general
mediawikki 1.5?
