Hmmm.. I had avoided this for many reasons so far, mostly because I'd rather 
prefer the user to manually save its database and run the script himself after 
this. 

I am not really convinced debconf is meant for that and trying to have a safe 
process can be really complicated.

However, if you think you can prepare a solid automatic upgrade, well why not 
:-)
