gconf settings

Sorry for the late answer. 

This feature gets auto detected during build. 

That is, if you have the proper build dependencies installed, this
feature will be enabled automagically.

Play around a bit with installing/not-installing the following -dev
packages:

gconf-2.0
libgnome-2.0
gnome-vfs-2.0

afaik, if you have all of them installed, the gnome component will get
built too. If you just install gconf-2.0 during build only the
'protocol handler through gconf' feature will be built in, iirc.
