I would suggest a more aggressive approach:
ping once ... wait 2 weeks, if no reply, close and point reporter to
instructions on how to reopen .

if you want, i can provide 2.0 builds for testing from my
people.debian.org account. I can do the same for iceape ... just let
me know.
