It turns out the patch that was applied on 1.6.4-7 to fix this bug is
*not* applied anymore. The 1.6.4-7 entry is not present in the
changelog, so I suspect it was fixed in one branch and not in the other.

Dave, could you apply the patch again?

Who knows, it could also fix the various problems with the experimental
