I have Linux-kernel 2.0.37 with Secure Linux-patch version 10. When I try to
start gnomehack (or nethack), I get these messages in /var/log/alert 

Sep  7 23:53:23 heresy kernel: Possible hard link exploit attempt: 
Sep  7 23:53:23 heresy kernel: Process nethack (pid 2553, uid 1000, euid
1000). 
Sep  7 23:53:23 heresy kernel: File owned by 0.60.

Hi,

Kernel 2.0.37 is ancient, and yes, it is due to the kernel patch
entirely. I am closing this bug because more modern patches like
grsecurity and newer openwall do not seem to exhibit this behavior.

Please reopen if there are any further concerns regarding this topic.
Nethack is hardly a rootkit :)
