If the bug in the compiler is fixed, then that's good news.

I can't easily test the fix though.  I would still be willing to try
to fix Octave to avoid the bug, but I need access to a system that
already has all the same tools as the buildd systems installed and
ready to go.  I was given an account on an m68k system (thanks) but
apparently without the same tools as the buildd system and I don't
have time to try to set everything up myself (and even if I had time,
I'm not sure I would know what to do).
