Yes I plan to do at least one more octave upload before the freeze. I
was actually waiting for the 3.8.2 release, which seems close. But if it
misses the deadline, I will do another 3.8.1 upload with some patches
backported.

Concerning the HDF5 stuff, I did not have a look at it yet.
