I neglected to jump in before, but this looks good to me too.

Including src:octave I presume? Have you had a chance to test the hdf5
transition? I have done a test build of octave with proposed patches
but no rdeps yet. I plan to do some more test builds to verify the
patches, especially octave-communications which explicitly links to
hdf5, may need its own patch.
