This is indeed strange. On my machine, I’m using sbuild (as on
buildds), and the test worked fine. This should probably be
investigated.

Since your package builds with mkoctfile, it gets the build flags from
octave. I guess the right fix is to rebuild octave on those arches
where the default build flags have changed (this will happen naturally
when we upload a new version of octave to unstable).
