get-orig-source is typically for more sophisticated cases of repacking than 
just removing some files from orig tarball... You can always use

    origtargz

or something like

    uscan --download-current-version

or better

    uscan --download-current-version --repack --compression xz

Certainly I can add "get-orig-source" with one of the above commands if you 
wish but I feel that's not really necessary...

I shall be happy to change my "standards" if they are in the way of active 
contributor(s). However there are reasons to do what I'm doing and IMHO GBP 
is very unfriendly for repacking non-DFSG tarballs especially when it needs 
to be done more than once. Fiddling with importing orig tars consumes time 
and bloats repository with a little benefits...
