I'm beginning to think that I may need to push upstrem tarball to "upstream" 
branch after all because it will fix all the problems with building with GBP
even though it might slightly complicate packaging of new upstream releases.

I haven't seen that one, thanks. You are right, instructions should be in 
line with reality and it would be nice to update that page...
