I do not understand what do you mean, sorry...

I'm not sure how it is helpful. You can do all this in your local branches or
in working directory (with "quilt" or without). Can you give an example
please?

I do not understand how it helps. One of the most annoying things about
upstream sources in repository is when they are merged with "debian" folder
in the "master" branch. It is much nicer when upstream sources are confined
to "upstream" branch but when repository is big and/or when there are non-
DFSG files in upstream sources I'd rather have no "upstream" branch at all..
Importing multiple versions of repacked upstream tarball is an effort and
such effort takes time from packaging with no added benefits...
At least I'm not aware of any benefits...

Don't count on me, I have no time to do that... :(

If any remedy is tested under controlled scientific conditions and
proved to be effective, it will cease to be alternative and will simply
become medicine. So-called alternative medicine either hasn't been
tested or it has failed its tests.
