sorry, your comments must have gotten lost in the noise for the bug
report.  the bug was closed because it was originally reported as a
security vulnerability, and the vulnerabilities were fixed (but not by
uploading a new version of php, as the RM is quoted in the bug report
saying it wouldn't be acceptable).

so, you should open a seperate bug report on this.  if the fix can't be
addressed any other way than uploading 5.2.1, then i'm afraid you won't
see it before etch is released.  

however, if you or someone who cares strongly about it is willing to
spend the time going through mailing lists and the php cvs web
interface, and if you can produce a clean and isolated patch that fixes
your problem, we could probably convince the RM's to accept it.

helpful)
