hi again,

also, because i don't know much about typo3... is this a precompiled
binary extension?  it may or may not be significant, but the debian php
packages are not binary-compatible with the vanilla php binaries.  if
compiled from source against the debian-provided php dev packages, this
shouldn't be an issue, but if it's a binary blob provided by someone
else, this may also be the cause of the problem, since the timeline of
the original problem report seems to be not to far from the time that we
switched.
