The first reason would be that it's available from PHP 5.3 and we
currently ship 5.2.x as we're preparing for Lenny. PHP 5.3 will be
available from sid after Lenny's release, so before that packaging this is
not that useful.

Furthermore I see not really a convincing reason to do so yet. But we can
evaluate that when 5.3 is there.
