sure. istr you've already done quite a bit of work on this, but i
don't remember the current state of things... is it in a mergeable state?
does it handle migrating from the previous setup okay? if you feel good
about it go ahead and merge it, though i'd appreciate it if you could let
me get 5.2.9-1 tagged and out first (i'll shoot for doing this tonight).

seems reasonable, at least for starters. we can always give it away

i think that makes sense, assuming the current authors are okay with it.

i'd still like to do it, but it's a bit of a mess really with our
repository layout and some other factors. we had someone show some interest
in doing work on this a while back but then i never heard any more. i'll
assume he ran into the same blocks that i did. here's a summary of the
problems immediately coming to mind:
- we have a ./debian-only style directory, and ideally our git repo would
contain the full source with seperate upstream and debian branches. i
think this can be solved with either grafts or filter-branches, but i
need to rtfm a bit on how this works.
- before and shortly after we moved to svn we had the ./debian dir
as the top-level directory in the repo, instead of the standard ./debian
aproach that's friendly to svn-buildpackage and friends. this might require
either doing the import in two steps or some other filter-branch voodoo to
move the old location to ./debian.
- upstream is making overtures of moving to git, we might want to see if it
makes sense to get our commit hashes sync'd with whatever they'll be
using to avoid a messy rebase later (assuming we'd want to clone them).
- we have seperate php4/php5 repos, maybe we don't care enough about php4?
alternatively, we could just shrug and take a slightly different approach,
using git-import-dsc for each of the currently released (in debian terms)
versions of php, though we'd loose our long and wonderful history...
