  Yes, I'd be happy to serve as a sponsor.  I'll request membership in
pkg-php in due time, I guess.

  I'm not too fond of CDBS either, to be honest.  But as long as the
packaging doesn't change much, I'm willing to sponsor packages based on
the current packaging (with the assumption that it works, since there
don't seem to be many bug reports currently).  If non-trivial changes to
the packaging are required, then I'll prefer debhelper too, since I will
then be able to review the changes much more efficiently.
