There will be new minor releases on Thursday this week, including some
security fixes, so there will be a stretch update as well.

Note that the problem in that stackexchange post was due to
mismatching signature algorithms in the certificate. SHA1 has been
deprecated and modern SSL libs reject certificates using it. I'd start
by verifying that:

openssl x509 -text < server.crt
