Package: libberkeleydb-perl
Version: 0.25-1
Severity: wishlist
Hello,
I am the coordinator for the packaging of RRFW, Round Robin Database
Framework [0-2]. It uses BerkeleyDB and libberkeleydb-perl to access
it. The problem is that upstream requires the use of BerkeleyDB
version 4.2.52 or later. Currently, however, libberkeleydb-perl
depends unconditionally on libdb4.1, even though it seems like it
should work fine with libdb4.2 as well. Quoting the PREREQUISITES
section of the upstream's README file for libberkeleydb-perl [3]:
* Berkeley DB Version 2.6.4 or greater
The official web site for Berkeley DB is http://www.sleepycat.com
The latest version of Berkeley DB is always available there. It
is recommended that you use the most recent version available at
the Sleepycat site.
The one exception to this advice is where you want to use BerkeleyDB
to access database files created by a third-party application,
like Sendmail. In these cases you must build BerkeleyDB with a
compatible version of Berkeley DB.
RRFW packaging team would greatly appreciate if you would consider
making a version of libberkeleydb-perl package, which would allow to
use it with BerkeleyDB 4.2.x. Hopefully it is not too hard!
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Jurij Smakov jurij@wooyd.org
