The interfaces aren't guaranteed to be compatible across different
versions.
Sometimes they change and there isn't any effort to avoid it. I'd like to
avoid
issues caused by mixed installations as much as possible so I agree about
your solution.

I'm still not sure about making a new debian package only for this reason.
