   Are you trying to use the http protocol to access the repository
instead of using the SVN protocol?   This, for instance, works to
checkout full LSMB Debian repository (in a directory where you want the
checkout to go):

svn checkout svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-sql-ledger/ledger-smb
