Oh maybe i wasn't completely clear. My suggestion was not to put it in
p{,u}mount program itself, that would be horrible.
I wanted to suggest to put another program inbetween (one that isn't setuid
etc), which gathers the ``extra'' information from hal and then calls pmount
with the right arguments. Then basically the only change to the various
volume-manager is to call that program instead of mount, like is currently done
with pmount in ubuntu..
