Well, at this point I don't know what to say, in the very same setting
(vim 7, same versione & gnome-terminal 2.14.2) I can't reproduce the
bug.

This makes me feel the bug is in gnome-terminal. What about asking the
gnome-terminal maintainers? Maybe they have more clue on how to
reproduce this.
A question that come into my mind: are you sure you're running vim and,
say, not a different editor which provides an alternative for vim as
well?
If you're running vim, which variant (gnome/perl/python/tiny/...) are
you running?
